I’m Steven Jeppesen

About me

I'm a self-proclaimed weirdo with a compulsion to take things apart and put them back together—whether it's languages, mountain bikes, or broken user experiences. This curiosity has shaped my entire career path, from studying linguistics in college (where I delighted in deconstructing language systems) to becoming a UX Product Designer with over 13 years of experience creating user experiences for global audiences.

I live in that crossroads of art and logic, where I get to use design to effectively communicate complex ideas to multitudes of users. And honestly? I truly enjoy this space where understanding something is just the beginning—the real magic happens when you make it work beautifully for everyone.

When I'm not designing, you'll find me on mountain bike trails thinking about how small details create entirely different experiences, or in my studio creating linocut prints—another form of communication that requires precision, patience, and an understanding of how people interpret visual information.

My Design Philosophy

I believe UX designers are user advocates first. My job isn't just to make things usable—it's to be the voice of the user in every room I enter. I won't compromise on accessibility or enable dark patterns because I believe businesses have a responsibility for what they put into the world.

This philosophy was tested during a particularly challenging project where we spent weeks redesigning scoring icons for a diverse user base. Round after round of testing failed to produce a solution that worked for everyone, even holding up development. But I learned that good design isn't about just finding a solution—it's about finding a solution that works for everyone. Through persistence and extensive user testing, we finally created something that properly communicated the idea and was accessible to all users.

My approach

Using mixed research methods and strategic design thinking, I lead cross-functional teams to deliver solutions from concept through to launch. My expertise spans interaction design, systems architecture, and user-centered AI integration—enabling me to design scalable experiences that delight users while driving business innovation.

What sets me apart is my ability to translate complex technical requirements into elegantly simple solutions that resonate with user needs. Whether I'm debugging a user journey or fine-tuning a mountain bike, I approach problems with the same methodical curiosity: taking things apart to understand how they work, then putting them back together better than before.
